Experience the power of our heritage diesel fleet too. Travel in antique carriages still heated by steam and with doors that you have to open the window to get out!
Learn about our line and its association with the Rockingham family and their iron and coal empire and as you travel in the train look out for some very important industrial archaeology, like the Newcomen Beam Engine House and Hemingfield Colliery and canal basin.
For the adventurous, you can book in advance to join us on the footplate of one of our steam or diesel engines and learn all about what it is like to crew an engine.

Of course, being Yorkshire, the kettle is always on, so there is a brew waiting in the station cafe and during the winter season we even give you a free cuppa with your ticket to keep you warm!

Elsecar and nearby Wentworth are attractive villages to visit. Spend time at the Elsecar Heritage Centre or Wentworth Woodhouse Stately Home. There are many local pubs and cafes to explore too.
We are sure you will want to visit again and we welcome you to join in by becoming a member of the railway. We are all volunteers, so we love to have new people along to help us keep our railway and industrial heritage alive in Yorkshire. There is a Yorkshire welcome and a job for everyone.
