Daisy is a Class 101 diesel multiple unit, and was built in 1957.
Each power car weighs approximately 32 tons in operational order, and two
engines are situated under each car. Daisy had operated as a three car unit
on the main line for many years, but the centre car is now owned by the
North Yorkshire Moors Railway DMU Group. She was last used on main line
services in December 2003, and had been stored out of use until March 2005,
when the unit was purchased for preservations and moved to Elsecar.
The DMU moved to the
Chasewater Railway in November 2006, but has since
visited the Midland Railway Centre at Butterley for an extensive overhaul
including mechanical works, bodywork repairs and a full repaint.
